Jay Lake: Writer

Another 5,500 words this evening, for a total of 10,500 today, with the mss now standing at 26,000 words. The story proceeds.

Me for sleep now.

ETA: Not sleeping yet. For those following along at home, this is day six of my drafting effort. My base commitment to myself of 2,500 words a day means I’m on target at the 15,000 word mark. So I’m over by 11,000 words. Which gives me a warm fuzzy.

Other end of this sucker is probably about 140,000 words, but I’m hesitant to pin that down yet given how badly I misunderestimated the length of Madness of Flowers. (Yes, , if I go berserk, I’ll be a Good Writer and cut.) I’m also not going to do end date math, because a bit further into this project I should start going into burst mode and laying down some 15,000-25,000 word days. We’ll see.

What I’m really happy about is that my process is holding up well, including writing to the approved outline. Pleased, quite pleased.
