Some morning nah nah nah
I don’t have much to say about the Rush Limbaugh-Michael J. Fox thing except to comment that anyone who is surprised or upset has been wilfully ignorant these past fifteen years. RL is one of the leading front men from the Right, and he’s built his entire career on mockery, ad hominem attacks and an extremely skilful intellectual dishonesty. I don’t why it would be any more offensive now than it has been for ages.
Also, Josh Marshall has an excellent commentary on racism as a GOP campaign strategy. Anybody remember Bush 41′s Willie Horton ad? Money shot:
Let them lose their majorities and their souls.
ETA: Joe Conanson is on about the same thing today.
Finally, I will venture a small political prediction here. If Democrats gain undisputable control of either house of Congress (ie, more than a one- or two-vote margin), with its concomittant subpoena power, there will be wholesale destruction of files, servers and electronic archives within the Congressional committee system. Also possibly the Executive branch. In our system, the political and legal consequences of destruction of evidence are far less damaging than the political and legal consequences of letting the truth come out — destruction of evidence is not a presumption of guilt, after all. Remember Fawn Hall and the shredder? Watch for that, and lots of tut-tutting from the commentariat, but also a lot of relief.
