By jove, perhaps we have it
The Democrats seem to have won the house. Watch for a wave of recount lawsuits with arguments in direct contradiction to the [R] position in Bush v. Gore, 2000. Watch for assaults, vandalism and assorted fun against [D] targets. But I think we’ll get past all that, so long as the President doesn’t manufacture some state of emergency under his various terrorist powers which would make the 109th Congress the American equivalent of the Long Parliament.
A somewhat more reliable prediction is that the procedural rules in the House (and Senate, if the [R]s lose there as well) will suddenly undergo substantial revision during lame duck session, with renewed concern for the rights and privileges of the minority party. I hope and pray that any new Democratic leadership immediately restores the current procedural rules. Of course, if such a thing were to happen, there would be howling to the rafters about radical partisanship and unfairness. (For those with short memories, this is pretty much exactly what happened when control of the Senate shifted after the 2000 elections.)
