[travel] Miscellaneous China notes
When you change Traveler’s Checks into renminbi, they go to a lot of trouble with the serial numbers. So this morning I took down some cash. Guess what, they go to a lot of trouble with the serial numbers. A mix of ones, fives and twenties, a lot of serial numbers. Cripes.
And last night at dinner, I am pleased to report that I avoided the goose bowel. Which was listed on the menu with a helpful photographic hint.
Mmm.

April 10th, 2009 at 8:10 pmI stopped taking traveler’s checks or significant amounts of cash with me when abroad. There are plenty of atms in most large cities, including Beijing, that will work just fine with a debit card. There may be a few places where this doesn’t work well yet, but I haven’t found them. (Note that in Brazil there are lots of atms but it is more challenging to find an international machine that will work with a U.S. card.)
