[personal] Stuff and things

Yesterday I worked. Had lunch yesterday with my friend SG. Spent the afternoon doing homework with the_child. Had dinner with H—. Still managed to find an hour to sign signature sheets for a forthcoming limited edition anthology in which calendula_witch and I have a collaborative story. Full day with some interesting moments along the way.

Pretty busy today, including Day Jobbery, another basketball game this afternoon, and another dinner out tonight. Plus revisions to a story that’s due, erm, now. Tomorrow, I’m back on Sunspin. Going to a radio play of The Hobbit over the weekend, off to Omaha Monday.

Having essentially spent most of the last year trapped in my body and in my house, this is terrific.

On the flip side, I’m going to the hospital for bloodwork today or tomorrow — whenever I find the time — in prep for my oncology followups the week after next. And that, well… There’s a fall-down-go-boom coming in April with the next round of scans. This intermediate check isn’t likely to reveal much, as we know from my experience that my CEA antigen levels are not strongly correlative to tumor activity. Still, it makes my head ring, and not in a good way.

What you got going on? Entertainment? Projects? Trepidations?

Your projects always sound bigger than mine! I had trouble meeting any of my writing goals in late 2010. Moving and raising a toddler for the first time was more time consuming than I had expected. We were also sick off and on most of the time and I found it all extremely disruptive to the routines I had set in place before the move.

This year we are expecting our second child and hoping to move into our own home before then. So, I’m trying a different kind of goal, blogging projects that can be scheduled ahead so that there’s no interruption. I’m reviewing every episode of Star Trek: TNG, which I’ve never seen before, and posting short question-prompts for short story and flash fiction writers. So far it is going well, and maybe soon I can add other goals like #flashfriday of my own.

All I have to do, if I lose motivation, is read your blog!

I’m about to have my first column at SFSignal go up today. . . if I can figure out how to transport the 20 or so hyperlinks in my text. WordPress not being helpful.

Also have a story ready to go out, just deciding where to send it first.

Friend of mine is coming to visit and goof off for the weekend, so I am unlikely to get much writing done. I am trying to finish the first draft of a horror mss.

Oh, and I will be booking my room for WorldCon’s Renovation… Are you attending?

    1. Jay says:

Yes I will. Are room bookings open now?

January 17th is the opening date for hotel reservations. I’ll be at the Atlantis, which is connected to the convention center.

  4. I had a fabulous lunch yesterday with my friend JL! Total highlight.

Other than that, I just watched both Shutter Island and Inception (for the first time) and quite liked them both. I think I surprised myself by how much I liked them both, actually.

I am reading Dark Faith, Wings of Fire, Ice Song and The Sad Tales of the Brothers Grossbart, plus catching up on some steampunkery reads.

Ah, steampunk. That’s just written by a bunch of hacks… :p

      1. So true!
