[cancer] The oncology follow-up visit
Went alone to my oncology follow-up today. No scan this time, just bloodwork and office chatter with the doctor. As good as could be expected. The oncologist tells me that my 5-year survival odds have improved to 50%, which is excellent news. Her exact words were, “You’re in as good shape as someone with stage IV cancer can be.”
Scans in mid-April, with oncology appointment to follow. All right before Norwescon. So, three more months of being healthy before the next checkpoint.

January 25th, 2011 at 10:30 pmI had cancer surgery almost 2 years ago and I am on the 5 year ‘plan’.
I have been thinking about what you said today, knowing what you have been through, plus my own experience with the big “C” and you know – this is one of those times where someone actually tells us what time we might have left.
Really who knows. We could walk across the street, drive across town, tomorrow, and that’s that. No one tells us we have 24 hours left do they.
In my minds eye, just live each day to the fullest. Love, laugh, enjoy – every single day. We never really know what our ‘time’ is.
