Last week I had an iPad in my hands for the first time and played around with it for a while. It’s a nice device and easy to carry around, the piano keyboard app is neat, even if the keys are a bit small for my fingers (and I have thin fingers). But the iPad does nothing that my laptop and netbook don’t already do for me. And since I do a lot of typing, both laptop and netbook are a lot better suited to my needs than the iPad with its virtual keyboard.

Going back to your consumers versus producers post, the iPad strikes me as a device primarily intended for consumers. Of course, you can use it to create, as your daughter’s stunning artwork proves. But its main utility lies in making consuming media easier and more elegant. Which is what a lot of people want from their device.
