Prop 8 Supporters: We Didn’t Really Mean What We Said About Same-Sex Marriage“It’s a stunning admission that all the arguments they were making before are completely baseless…” Not like they weren’t completely baseless along, the prop 8 lawsuit arguments were beyond laughable: just the usual conservative fearmongering in the face of fact and in support of bigotry.

Reality Bites: The GOP After Daniels, and After 2012The most important political story of the Obama era has been the Republican Party’s growing defiance of reality—its denial of climate science, its denunciations of Medicare cuts while proposing Medicare cuts, its denunciations of debt while proposing debt-exploding tax cuts, its resistance to financial regulation in the wake of a financial meltdown, and so on. Now the GOP’s most promising reality-based presidential candidate, Mitch Daniels, has passed up the race.

  1. Here’s a simple denial of climate science argument: The planet itself is going to be here long after everyone’s in the grave, and nothing we do singularly or collectively is going to change that.

I have a problem with Prop 8, not for any of the stated reasons, but for what it represents. I don’t care that gays are getting together, having relationships, and even living together. My problem is with them stating they have more rights than I do, simply because they believe differently. There’s more to this part of today’s rant, however, I don’t want to be amped the rest of the day…..

    Thanks Jay for this forum.

    1. Jay says:

You and I obviously have rather different views on the issue. For one, to my eye this is about attaining the rights you and already I have that are currently denied to my gay friends, including tax status, legal status and end of life care decisions for partners. That’s not “more rights”, that’s catching up.

But ’nuff said, I suspect. Not a good day for me to amp up either.
