[events] Talk at the Milwaukie Ledding Library

Last night I gave my talk at the Milwaukie Ledding Library. That was a lot of fun. People came and went during the course of the event, with perhaps twenty-five total in attendance. The librarian I was working with turned out to be a friend of tillyjane‘s housemate from their college days. Small world, etc.

I don’t usually speak to library audiences, so it was an interesting twist to how I pitched my talk. I did get people to ask some questions, which was good. A young person wanted to know if Green’s leather armor was made from the hide of Endurance. Which was a hell of a good question that I wished I’d thought of when writing the book. (The answer would probably still have been “no”, but it would have been a nuanced, considered “no” instead of an “um…. no”.)

Afterwards while chatting a couple of teenagers hung around without saying much. One of them finally worked up the courage to ask about books and her sister. I won’t get into any more detail than that, but suffice to say the question was sweet and appropriate, and I was able to extend a small kindness that seemed to make several people very happy.

I like meeting people, and I like it even more when I reach them. My thanks to the staff of the Ledding Library for inviting me, and for going out of their way to make me feel welcome.
