[culture] Lake’s Law of Power Outlets
In any public space with a high demand for and limited supply of power outlets, such as an airport gate area, the first seats taken will be those closest to the outlets, and those seats will generally be occupied by people who do not need or care about the outlets.
Corollary: You will be resented as a creeper if you sit down next to them in an otherwise empty gate area and reach around to plug in.

Haha…I am totally the person who sits down on the floor, plugs in my laptop and ignores whoever is sitting there next to me in an actual chair.
As a bonus, the floor is often more comfy than airport chairs and it’s easier to watch the munchkin when I’m on his level.
…I think I just realized I have spent far too much time on the floor in airports…
To be fair, a lot of people don’t realize that others need those power outlets. For example, I’ve frequently had to steer my mother (70, does not do computers, resents attempts to buy her a tablet) away from the seats near the power outlets several times, because she’s never needed them and doesn’t realize that others might.
My home airport of Bremen is one of the worst about power outlets BTW. I once saw a guy sitting on the floor with his laptop in front of him, because the only power outlet in the departure area was on the wall far from every seat.
Paris Charles de Gaulle, while horrible in every other way, is really good about power outlets BTW. Plenty of them in easily accessible locations that are nonetheless not likely to be occupied by people who don’t have laptops.
I am a member of the creeper brigade.
