[travel|photos] New Zealand travelog recap – cheese and steampunk, oh my!
by
In Oamaru, we had a pretty nifty day. First off was Whitestone Cheese. Where we, um, ate cheese. Then toured a cheese making facility. Then, um, bought cheese. Because cheese. And the brie there was amazing, the best I’ve ever had. Very high butterfat, it seems. And they have an award-winning bleu that is to die for.
Did I mention cheese?
Then we were off to Steampunk HQ. It’s basic a giant art installation in a grain warehouse that partially burned down a hundred years ago. So, yeah. Pretty rad. Our artist/host was as amazing fellow, as was the charming Jan Kennedy, who both steampunks and does Oamaru tourism development. This is a must-see for any steampunk fan or lifestyle who can make it to the antipodes.
Tomorrow: Penny farthings, a Victorian book bindery, our turn in the barrel, plus penguins.

“Aged Airedale” sounds a bit offputting. (Though not so gruesome as the container labelled “TRAMP OIL” I came across at work. Anti-homeless sentiment is getting really harsh around here.)
