[personal] A body in motion tends to remain in motion

Back in Portland. It was raining when I got here. Who knew?

Next few days will be a blur. Hell, who am I kidding? The next month will be a blur. I have to take to China, I have Day Jobbe trips to New York and Omaha, then at the beginning of May, I’ll see again.

I also need to write several promised short stories in that time frame, do some wrap up on Footprints, and gear up for final revisions to Pinion in May, as well as jumping in to Endurance.

Busy, me? Wouldn’t have it any other way.

[travel|personal] Off again, as always

I am off this afternoon back to Portland. Lunch with tomorrow, and has an event tomorrow night, then it’s the hard slide into home plate as I prepare for the China trip next Tuesday.

San Francisco has been utterly lovely. is a brilliant hostess and a delightful human being, as always; while the Borderlands write-in with was a blast, as was the party and I hosted that evening.

I expect to continue blogging and photographing all through the China trip, but have no idea how the updates will work. Watch this space.

Right after I get back from China I’m off to New York City for a few days, then back to Portland, then Omaha followed by San Francisco again for the beginning of May.

You all play nice while I’m swanning about the continents.

[personal] Miscellaneous updatery

A quick rollup of what’s going on. Had a good rest of the weekend at Foolscap, with more paneling and whatnot. Sunday I got up at 5, wrote for 90 minutes, led a 60 minute walk at 7, had breakfast with Mark Ferrari, wrote for another 30, got packed out to blaze back to Portland, then ran the auction for an hour before hitting the road. I needed to spend some quality time with the_child. Once she went home, last night was catch-up and early bedtime.

Hands down, the weirdest moment of the convention was talking to (the other) Karen Anderson and discovering that she had covered my high school graduation for the local paper in Meridian, CT. (jtdiii, are you reading this? He and I went to Choate together.)

I overslept this morning, not cracking out of bed til 4:30, so I abandoned my plan for a long walk and did 30 minutes on the stationary bike. I weighed in at a new low of 229.0, which shocked me, coming immediately after the crap eating that always goes along with a convention weekend. That puts me down 65 pounds for the year from when I first started tracking in February, and probably more like 70 if I’d begun the numbers in January. Well down into “what I weighed in college” territory.

Short week here at Nuevo Rancho Lake, since I’m lighting out for FenCon at the crack of early on Thursday. I’ll be logging my two hours per day on Tourbillon through the convention, if I humanly can. I’ve not really tried writing straight through convention weekends before. It’s been an interesting experience. I’ll blog later about the differences (for me) of early morning writing versus my usual afternoon/evening. In the mean time, I have things to do with the_child, a very sick friend to visit in the hospital, the Day Jobbe to keep up with, and some planning time with my parents to go over next year’s trip to China.

Expect continued light blogging, though as always I may get hypergraphic.

[personal|travel] Planning ahead

Looking down the road apiece, I see a few things. I’m going mostly offline this weekend to work on some writing related program activities, prep for Tourbillion and catch some headspace. A blogging holiday, and mostly an email holiday. If that works well I may try to do it every couple of months.

Off to Omaha next week for Day Jobbe. Off to San Francisco the week after that for a trade show. The weekend after that I’ll be in Redmond, WA for Foolscap.

I expect to be back in Omaha three or four more times between Labor Day Week and the end of the year. I’ll be at FenCon in October, then World Fantasy at the end of October, then OryCon in November, which pretty much closes out the con season for 2008.

Next year I’m writer GoH at RustyCon, Toastmaster at RadCon, doing a writer-in-residence gig at an East Coast prep school, then going to China for two weeks in April with the_child, her mother and my parents. This will unfortunately cause me to miss Norwescon, which is the first time since 2000 I won’t be there.

I know I’ll be at WorldCon in Montreal and World Fantasy in San Jose, but my convention travel is otherwise going to be very limited due to the time and expense of the China trip.

There will eventually be a more official calendar, but all this is just in case you were wondering. You know.
