[conventions] Worldcon, Day One

and I got into our hotel yesterday afternoon early enough for an hour of downtime, post-travel. We headed (briefly) for the lobby bar, then off to a late dinner with the METAtropolis gang — Steve Feldberg, John and Krissy Scalzi, Elizabeth Bear, Tobias Buckell and Karl Schroeder. A very nice evening of Japanese food and entertaining conversation.

Back at the Delta, I hit the Tor party for a while, as she did BarCon downstairs. Eventually we hooked up once more and headed for home at the Holiday Inn. My early morning breakfast canceled after I went to sleep, so my alarm went off at oh:dark:stupid for no good reason, but now I’m tooling up for Stroll With the Stars, my first stop on what promises to be a very long day. , wise woman that she is, is sleeping in, then taking some yoga and writing time this morning.

[conventions|travel] Here in Montreal

Up at 3 am. Out of the Witchnest a little after 3:30. Luggage silliness in the Witchmobile. Checked in, slept most of the way from SFO to DIA. Tried to blog at DIA, stoopid wireless ate my link salad post. Managed a zen photo post. From DIA to YUL: talked to friends and fans, and wrote 4,300 words of first draft on a collaborative project with for Lace and Blade 3 (a backstory short about Mother Vajpai from Green and Endurance). Talked to more friends and fans in the arrivals hall. Shared a cab in from the airport with a couple of folks, now briefly lurking in our hotel room at the Holiday Inn before we head out to a nice Japanese dinner with the METAtropolis crew. Tor party later tonight.

See some, all or none of you around the joint.

[travel] Back to Portlandia today

Spent a nice morning yesterday with , including lunch with and a trip to Big John’s PFI. (Two trips, actually, but who’s counting?) If you’re ever hanging around in Seattle, and you’re any kind of a foodie, I highly recommend Big John’s.

In the afternoon I shifted venue to ‘s house for her bbq, with a cast of dozens. That was lovely and entertaining. Me and , pretending to be serious.

That was all fun, featuring moose burgers, chum candy and truly vile soda pop, and went on plenty late for this dawn patroller. Helped clean up before we crashed out. Heading out soonish, once mine hostess awakens. May stop and visit the sweet babies Scholes in their nursery on the way home, as I almost drive past their house anyway. Off to San Francisco on Tuesday, then Montreal on Thursday.
