[personal] A little more updatery

Beach is cold and foggy. So am I. It was a rather difficult night, and that’s enough said about that.

There appears to be some extremely cool Escapement Amazon ] news forthcoming. Once it comes forth in a confirmable fashion, I will share.

Working today, then hanging with the family and writing. Omaha has been having some spectacularly bad weather. Next week’s travel may be interesting. In the mean time, I shall do what I always do and enjoy myself right where I am.

[personal] Chilling at the beach

the_child and I left Portland amid 90 degree weather, arriving at the beach three hours later in 60 degree weather. My parents served us a fine homemade dinner, after which I collapsed on the couch.

Some Day Jobbe work tomorrow, then family time plus working on “Forests of the Night”, through Saturday. I was going to make a more ambitious blog post about the emotional penalties of cancer, but I’m too damned tired and the bandwidth is very narrow here.

Y’all play nice. I’ll be back around in the morning.

[travel] Miscellaneous geopositioning updatery

I guess I’m back on the merry-go-round.

This afternoon, the_child and I are off to the Washington coast (again!) to my parents’ beach house for the holiday weekend. I’ll be doing Day Jobbe work tomorrow, and a whole bunch more drafting on “In the Forests of the Night.”

Back Saturday afternoon, with a day of down time, then I’m off to scenic Omaha next Monday. The following Friday (7/11), I’m heading straight to San Francisco for an Escapement Amazon ] mini book tour.

I’ll be down in Santa Cruz Saturday morning with Rick Kleffel to be a radio talking head on GeekSpeak, 10 am – 11 am. Reading at Borderlands Books in San Francisco Saturday afternoon at 3 pm. Then I’m at SF in SF with Susan Palwick that night at 7 pm. Home Sunday afternoon.
If you’re around the Bay Area, drop by one or more of those events.

[conventions] Iron Springs

the_child and I were up at the Iron Springs workshop this weekend, off the grid on the Pacific Coast of the Olympic Peninsula. A bunch of Washington writers were there, me from Oregon, and calendula_witch from California. (ETA: And renatus all the way from Finland! Which I apparently confused easily with Bellingham, WA.) The setting was beautiful and funky, the company was good, and the workshop/career chatter quite fulfilling.

A few photos: (more…)

[conventions] Iron Springs

[conventions] isn’t quite the right tag, but I haven’t yet bothered to use a [conferences] tag. I’m off in the morning to Iron Springs, which is a low-key writing retreat on the Pacific Coast up in the Olympic Peninsula. (Pauses for reader envy.) the_child will be with me there, and we will have Cheese Friday night.

As far as I know, the resort we’re using has ca. Korean War era infrastructure, so I don’t expect wireless coverage or Internet access. That means this blog will probably go dark until Sunday night. I’m sure all of you will persevere wo|manfully, as you so often do.

I will attempt to secure an awesome photo or two while I’m there, plus get a bunch of work done on a Sekrit Projekt.

[travel] Trying to hit the road

I’m planning to run up to Seattle this afternoon, courtesy of lillypond and lasirenadolce. I’m not sure I’ll have the oomph for the Bill Gibson events tonight, based on energy levels of the past few days, but we will be at the Locus Awards tomorrow.

Also, because I keep failing to mention this, I’ll be reading at SF in SF on Saturday, July 12th. Look for me to be in the Bay Area from the 11th to the 13th of next month.

[personal|writing] Updatery of the rankest order

Got about 2/3 of the way through Green yesterday, reading the line edits and batting clean-up on the last few change notes. I’d really like to do a print-out for hard copy read through, but I doubt I have time between now and 6/30 for that.

Yesterday evening ran a little later than planned, then, in a fit of madness, I tried sleeping without the drugs. (This happened Sunday night by accident.) I’ll be functional today, but it won’t be pretty. Having my hair done this afternoon, then probably flat and quiet all evening. This is consistent with my “every other day” post-op energy levels, though the sleepless night doesn’t help.

Locus Awards this weekend, so I’ll be in Seattle from Friday afternoon to mid-day Sunday. Energy permitting, I’ll be at the Clarion West party Bill Gibson shindig Friday night. See some, all or none of you there.
